Can’t Sleep

Monday, March 27th, 2006

Spring break went well- we went to Minneapolis for a Hmong National Development conference.  Hong went to a car show.  Minneapolis is pretty cool- we finally had some good ass Vietnamese food.  The downtown is connected by skywalkways so you don’t even have to walk outside if you don’t want to.  I saw some old friends from UC Davis.

I miss Russel and Kalysta (i call her Kalea). I have some new photos of them in folder: "R and K babies."  Padee e-mailed me the photos.  She is going to postpone her graduation for winter so Hong and I can go.  She is done at UC Davis in spring.  I mailed her all my felt wallets today to give out to her roomies and my little sis.  I made about 10 felt wallets during spring break which I have no use for.  They literally cost me about 25 cents to make- the felt was on sale at Joanne’s- 10 pieces for $1.00.  I’ll post pics of the wallets soon.

This weekend is the law school ball- it is like a prom.  Whatever- i get to dress up.  I have been looking shitty lately just cause all my clothes are too big- i am working out more to destress and stay healthy- getting fit is great but it also means I need new clothes which I have neither time nor money to shop for.  Hopefully my summer job will pay decent wage.  So, for the ball- i will wear my  pink silk strapless dress.  It is at the dry cleaners right now.  A bunch of us chicks will be getting together at Emily’s apt to do each other’s hair, etc.  It should be fun.

Well- it’s about 12:40 a.m. right now.  I cannot sleep but I should try since I have to get up at 7 a.m.

Tata!

CONDO PICS

Here are some pics of the inside of our home. We are subletting it for the summer so had to take pics to send to interested parties.

The pics are in photo albums: APT PICS and APT PICS 2

Enjoy.

SNOW

Sunday, March 5th, 2006

Hi all-

it’s been a while- I know.  Today it snowed again..hong and i went for a walk to Brennans and got some wine and fruit.  I have photos in the SNOW photo album to the left.  School has been pretty good…much more relaxed as compared to last semester.  So far, my summer plan is to work for the Federal Defender Services Organization in Milwaukee.  It is a non-govt., non-profit that brings together private attorneys who defend people accused of criminal offenses at the federal level.  I visited Milwaukee a few weeks ago and it is such a nice city- huge and developing.  The downtown has lots of clubs and artsy stuff.  Hong will apply to teach there next year so perhaps I will be commuting to Madison- a one hour’ish commute (without traffic).  We thought about him living there and us seeing each other on the weekends but I am totally against that because I really love having him near to keep me sane.

I celebrated my 27th b-day in Chicago last weekend and it was soooooo FUN!  We had 15 people stay in a one-bedroom hotel suite, had dinner at Bucas and went dancing at Buddha Lounge.  Buddha is small but has great music and cool people- a very chill vibe.  All 15 people were ladies except for two guys- Hong and Semy.  Then we had dim sum in Chicago’s Chinatown Sunday morning.  So yummy!

Hong got me a sewing machine for my b-day and I have been sewing like crazy.  I love watching Project Runway so I have been inspired to design some of my own stuff.  Minna got me this really cool sticker machine which is soooo awesome- it is really easy to use. Kalyn mailed me some chili lemeon pistachios which Hong and I ate in two days!  SO good.  We also got a blender which we use to make margaritas. I got many thoughtful cards and messages from friends and family.  I love knowing that even though I sometimes feel so far away in Madison- there are so many people to care for and who care about me.

I plan to post pics of our condo soon– it is looking really good since we have put much work into decorating, etc.  I love it-  we have red walls and our kitchen is sage.  It is very homey and just right for us.  We plan to turn our dining room into a second bedroom or a lounge.  We don’t eat in it since we usually eat in our living room.

We watch 24 every Monday and have friends over for dinner.  We take turn cooking.  I think we have a good group of 6-7 constant 24 fans!

Last night we celebarted Emily’s b-day having Laotion food and doing karaoke. Hong and I sang Hotel California.  Then we went dancing at Fridas which is way hoochified but good music.  Thank god I was with Hong or else I would have guys bumping and grinding me like they do with all other girls.  Yuck!

Each week, Hong and I cook our weekly meals on Sunday so we don’t have to cook the rest of the week.  The past two weeks, Hong has been crazy over mao po tofu.  I have been crazy over pork spare ribs.  This week, I made pasta with home-made marinara sauce and curry noodles.

Well- do write me.  I will try to update more often.

Love, Nancy
