Stormy, rainy, thunderous

Hey all-

Okay- so I know I have not yet posted photos as I promised.  Sorry folks- no time.  I’m only able to get to you on this post cause I am writing this during class:)  But Hong is getting a new mac so he will have time to post all our photos from home.  I use the mac at school now so he can’t post photos.

Anyways- it’s been raining and storming a lot- a sign of fall and son- winter.  Actually, it’s not too bad in Madison.  I went and bought some snow boots the other day.  They are not cute but hey, they are practical. I just don’t want to be caught without snow boots when it snows.  I have no sense of the weather and when it will change.  I just take it as it comes.  I heard H&M opened at the Mall of America (MOA) in Minneapolis so I’m thinking of hitting MOA soon- Minna, let me know when you’re going:)

By now, many of you should have recieved a postcard with my new address.  If you have not recieved one and want my new addy, just e-mail me your address to: nanvue97@yahoo.com and I would be happy to send you mail that is besides your junk mail and bills.

I miss all my clothes in CA soooo much.  I have all of seven pairs of jeans which is soooo SAD!  For those who know me- exp. Vicky- you all know I can not live with only seven pairs of jeans.  So, I am planning to bring back much of clothes when I come back to CA in Nov.  Oh yeah, Hong and I will be in Oakland and Sacramento from Nov. 19th-Nov. 25.  I’m just gonna miss the 3 days of school before Thanksgiving cause I have a wedding to attend on the 19th.  We are looking forward to GOOD food.  Here’s our food schedule:

Sat, 11/19: Cantaros for lunch, wedding food for dinner
Sun: Oriental Tea House dim sum for brunch, dinner with Hong’s parents
Mon: Hong’s fav restaurant for pho and rice rolls for brunch, Lee’s cafe for dinner
Tues: Pho for lunch, Drunken Fish for dinner
Wed: Hoa Viet on Broadway for lunch, dinner with my family
Thurs: Costco pizza for lunch, dinner with my family
Fri: Hmong sausage at Hmong New Years for lunch, Hmong sausage for dinner

Whew- making that list made me hungry.  Yeah- besides missing my clothes and family/friends, I miss GOOD food.  Chinese food out here sucks.  We had some decent Korean the other night.  So Hong and I have been cooking in lots.

Alright- time to pay attention in class.  Write me ya’ll.

Nancy:)

First Day Accomplished!

Tuesday, September 6th, 2005

Okay- it’s 1:08 a.m. in Madison and I just finished reading for class.  My first official day of law school went well…I’m exhausted…

Hong and I have gone to Target about 20 times  since we’ve been here.  We’ve had to furnish our apt from nothing.  We now have a futon, air mattress, TV, table with four chairs, torchiere lamp, microwave, rice cooker, and hangers.  And curtains- burgandy.  I have yet to upload our Thailand photos but I promise to do that soon along with photos of our humble abode- well, our current apt, is huge compared to our Oakland apt.  Hong and I have been sleeping in the living room and hardly use our two bedrooms.  The closets are awesome- just ask Niti who dropped me off from the airport.  THANKS Niti!!!

The apt is part of university housing for grad and international students.  There are many international students here with their families so many of the 1 bedroom apt are taken by single students or 3 bedroom apt taken by families so they have many more 2 bedrooms left which is what Hong and I have.

I usually take the bus to school since it stops right out front my apt.  Hong is chillin’, playing b-ball, watching tennis, and napping lots but he’s starting to get restless so he’ll start working soon.  He couldn’t last barely one week without needing to work.  Yeah, it’s pretty boring since he doesn’t know anyone but me.  At least I have the other law students.

The Univ of Wisc-Madison law school is very cool- it has a very supportive and friendly environment.  Most profs I’ve met are cool.  I have all my classes in one building so I do not get out onto the main campus at all except to go to the univ gym or have meals.  The campus is hugantic and sprawling.

The New Orleans flood is making me sad, esp. since people are still living at that dome thingy.  Geez- yes, it’s a natural disaster that was completely unpreventable but the human tragedy could have been somewhat alleviated if development had been controlled so land erosion was less severe and the poor people had access to leaving the city.  Wow- no food and water for days would make me loot too.  I would head straight for Target for some food.

Anyways- I miss all of CA.  I am trying hard to not be the snooty California girl that talks about how great CA is but CA is pretty great- weather-wise and all.  The people here are "nice"- I guess more "polite" than CA is the right word.  Well, the weather  here is  pretty awesome since it’s still summery.  The snow won’t get too bad until after October.

Hong and I have been cooking a lot since we don’t know the restaurants around here that well yet.  Though the food out here is pretty much chain food.  Not many ethnic places- we have not found a dim sum place or pho place yet.  So, I’ve been relying on Mamy noodles and Hong’s fried rice.

Okay- gotta sleep.  Please write.  I may disappear for a while but I promise to respond if you write me.
