Memorial Weekend

Tuesday, May 31st, 2005

Per Jasmine’s request, here’s a new blog.  I was trying out a blog on www.hongandnancy.blogspot.com but I guess I’ll use friendsters now.

Wow- this weekend was so crazy fun.  I love 4-day weekends.  Hong and I saw Star Wars on Thursday Night- such a good movie- I mean, the story is so good- gosh, I can’t belive this whole thing comes down to a tragic love story- don’t they all?  But, now all the other Star Wars make sense to me.  I’m down to seeing it again if anyone wants to come with me.  After the movie- we met up with Vicky to go to the Beauty Bar in the Mission.  Did some dancing and then got a Cambodian Donut in North Beach- apple fritters are my fav.

Friday- I don’t remember what we did- I think Hong and I just cleaned up our apt.  It looks so much cleaner now.  We’ve begun packing- we need to finish packing by the first week of August cause then we are leaving for Thailand for 10 days and when we get back, we’ll have a wedding to attend and then we move to Madison right away.

Saturday- Hong, Vicky and I went to Napa for some wine tasting.  I always thought it would be all these pretentious people sipping wine and talking snooty but it was actualy SOOOOO fun.  That is so with five "o’s."  Yeah- we went to V. Sattui for complimentary wine tasting and Vicky got two bottles.  Then we went to Rutherford Hill Winery for tasting and tour.  This winery stores their wine in caves.  Caves are cool- we took a tour through them.  The tasting and tour costs $10 but you  get to keep your wine glass and the tour is just awesome.  Very educational.  Then we went to this smaller boutique winery on Silverado Trails and I got a bottle of Chardonnay.  Yummy stuff.  It was $5 tasting but the fee is waived if you buy a bottle.  After 3 wineries, we were exhausted.  It’s a lot of driving and there is tons of traffic on the two lane freeway so start out early if you decide to go.  Write a post if you have questions- I did lots of research for our wine tasting and can give you some good advice.  After wine tasting, we rested back our apt and then went to Dragon Bar in North Beach for some dancing.  Had lots of fun!  There was a bunch of us to so that made it better.  We had some Chinese fod at Sun Hong Kong afterwards- cost only $60 to feed 11 people!  Crazy huh?  And they brought out those dishes fast too.

Sunday, we went hiking at Point Reyes- my fourth time but for everyone else- it was their first time.  Bear Valley Trail to Arch Rock is the best hike ever- the view at the end is so worth the total 8- mile hike.  We rock climbed down to the coast and looked at tide pools.  As we were hiking back up to the bluff, we got caught as the tide was coming up and we all got soaked to our waist.  It was actually kind of scary though exhilirating.  I kept thinking how I was gonna be swept up by the ocean and carried out to sea.  Hong kept telling us all to go but I think he was secretly telling us to go when the waves were coming towards us instead of when the waves were going out to sea.  He is such a meanie.  j/k

Well- the weekend is now over but we have such good memories.  I will miss all this when I start law school.  No more clubbing and hiking for me once I start UW- Madison.  I’m so sad having to leave everyone- especially Jasmine, Grant, Vicky and Andrew- even Bud the doggy.  But, we still have Thailand so whoever wants to go- let me know.  It’s $769 for flight, hotel and tours for 5 days in Bangkok, Thailand with free stopover in Hong Kong.  Hong and I plan to leave Aug. 16- spend 7 days in Thailand and 2 days in Hong Kong.

Alright- got to get back to work.  Much of my grant reports have been turned in so it’s sort of slow for me right now.  But as the fiscal year closes, I’ll get busy again in June.

Write me!
